Creating a Facebook Account and Profile
Below are steps to set up a Facebook account. Please note that by following these steps you will create a basic Facebook profile which shows a very limited amount of information to other Facebook users of your choosing. You are, of course, welcome to add other information (such as schools attended, pictures, personal interests and hobbies and contact information) if you wish, but we strongly suggest that you read over our information on Facebook Privacy Settings and consider what information you feel comfortable sharing in a public forum.
Step 1: Go to www.facebook.com
Step 2: At the sign in page, enter your full name, e-mail, sex, birth date and a password in the "sign-up" box. This password and your e-mail address will be used to sign into Facebook from now on.
Step 3: Click "sign up."
Step 4: At the security check-point, enter the text you see in the top box into the "Text in the box" space.
Step 5: You will then be directed to sign into the e-mail account which corresponds to the e-mail address you entered. In your e-mail account, you will see an e-mail from Facebook which says, "You recently registered for Facebook. To complete your Facebook registration, follow this link..."
Step 6: Click the link to confirm your Facebook account.
Step 7: Once you are brought back to the Facebook page you can skip the "Find Friends Already On Facebook" stage by clicking "skip this step" on the bottom right hand corner of the page.
Step 8: You can skip the "Fill out your Profile Info" step by clicking "skip this step" on the bottom right hand corner of the page.
Step 9: You can skip the "Join a Network" step by clicking the "skip this step" on the bottom right hand corner of the page.
Step 10: Click on "view and edit my profile."
Step 11: In the first screen (the bio tab) you can remove all personal information by un-checking the "show my sex in my profile" box, choosing "don't show my birth date in my profile" from the drop down menu, and not entering any other information.
Step 12: Click "Save Changes."
Step 13: Next, click on the "Contact Information" tab.
Step 14: Next to your e-mail address, click on the icon depicting the lock.
Step 15: In the drop-down menu that appears, click "no one" and then click savge.
Step 16: Click "Save Changes."
